During the month of October, celebrate the most bountiful time of year in the Southwest with the Cortez Cultural Center. A series of fundraising events will showcase the rich agricultural and food traditions found in our area. 

Food For All

Our community has a wealth of resources dedicated to ensuring enough food for all. This is an opportunity to learn firsthand from local dedicated volunteers and sta what resources are available and how you can help.

The event is free to all but the donations of non-perishable food items are encouraged.

Art Ala Carte Exhibit Opening Reception

In this special, curated art exhibit to accompany Everybody Eats: Harvest, Culture and Culinary Adventures, local artists create art out of and about food. They were invited to contemplate food and the culinary arts and their impact on our lives and senses with a focus on all of the textures, colors, flavors, and cultural significance. Meet the artists at the opening reception and vote for “the Most Delicious Looking Piece” and “Most Ingenious Use of materials.”

Appetizers and beverages will be available.

Dessert Auction

5:30 – 8:00 pm

The Dessert Auction is Back! Our local culinary artists display their talents with a wide variety of delectable treats available for purchase to the highest bidder.

5:30 – Socializing will begin with live music by Mark Allen: “Have sax will travel.” The Coffeehouse will be open with a cash bar, and the auction will launch at 6:00 PM; Zane Kuenzler and family will be our auctioneers.

No tickets required.

Cortez Milling is well-known for the best flour around and the only flour for Indian Frybread. Learn about the rich history behind this long-time successful local business. There will be a frybread demonstration and tasting on-site.

Vibrant Earth Seed – Avalon

“Ancestral Seeds for Future Generations.” There is no more basic element in the food world than the seed. Vibrant Earth Seeds is a family seed farm and seed company in Southwest Colorado on Ancestral Puebloan land dedicated to offering regionally adapted seeds.” Avalon and Ross will share their passion and process in this presentation.

Chili Roasting with Dan Hobbs

In the Southwest the smell of roasting chiles and harvest go hand-in-hand. Join producer Dan Hobbs at the Pueblo Seed facility on Beech Street to learn all the ins and outs of chili roasting. Meet at Cortez Cultural Center at 9:45 AM to walk/drive over.

Lavender Farm Tour

This is a chance to experience the balancing, restful effects of Lavender, learn about the farm’s commitment to the environment, and explore a variety of Lavender products.

Meet at the Cultural Center at 12:30 to carpool over to the Farm.

Fenceline Cider Mancos: Cidermaking and Cider Tasting

Fenceline Cider produces fine hand-crafted cider and wine at its facility in Mancos. They are on a mission to preserve the rich apple and fruit legacy of the Colorado Plateau. Learn the story behind the cider; savor the varieties and relax in the beautiful taproom on this special culinary adventure.

We will depart at 4:00 PM from the Cultural Center to carpool.

Ute Mountain Farm and Ranch Tour / Bow and Arrow Brand

12:30 to 4:30 PM

$25 per person

Ute Mountain Farm and Ranch is graciously opening their fantastic farm again for Everybody Eats participants. This season, the tour takes place on a Wednesday so that visitors can see the Bow and Arrow plant in operation.

This is a unique opportunity for local residents to view the extensive agricultural operations of Ute Mountain Farm and Ranch and the production of their famous Bow and Arrow Brand products.

We will meet at 12:15 PM at the Cultural Center to carpool to the site. Snacks will be provided but feel free to bring lunch to eat on the way. Please be prepared for extended standing during this tour and bring seating if that makes your visit more comfortable.

Food from the Heart: Tastings and Stories

5:30 PM – 8:00 PM

$35 per person non-members/ $30 per person for CCC members/ $40 per person at the door

Food is not only a basic need but reaches all people at a variety of different levels. At Food from the Heart: Tastings and Stories, eight local residents will share foods that have special meaning in their lives and tell their stories behind the food.

Grand Finale: Tasting Table featuring foods and recipes from local fundraising cookbooks. Social Hour: 5:30 – 6:00 PM with music by Jay and Amanda. There will be a cash bar and the Community Coffeehouse will be open.
